Business Travel Hotel in Tribeca

Smyth Tribeca sits at 85 West Broadway at Chambers Street, in the middle of Lower Manhattan’s business district. The Financial District, the World Trade Center campus and the civic buildings around Foley Square are all a walk from the door, and the Chambers Street subway stations put the rest of the city within a few stops. If the day is meetings in the morning and a client dinner at night, this is a location that takes the commute out of it.

It is a small hotel by Manhattan standards, which is the point. The team knows the neighbourhood, the cabs, and which entrance of which building you are looking for.

Getting here from the airports and stations

From JFK, take the A train from Chambers Street to the AirTrain transfer at Howard Beach; by car the trip runs 45 to 75 minutes depending on traffic. From Newark, the PATH train from the World Trade Center is roughly a ten-minute walk from the hotel. From LaGuardia, allow 30 to 60 minutes by car. Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall are a short cab ride north, and Fulton Center and the Oculus are within a few blocks for connections across the city.

Suites and rooms built for a working trip

Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and a residential feel rather than a corporate one, with space to sit and work that most Midtown rooms do not offer at this price point. The Alcove Studio Suite gives 500 square feet with separate space to sleep and sit, which suits a stay of several nights. The Tribeca Suite adds 800 square feet for work, meetings and rest, while the Smyth Terrace and Penthouse Terrace Suites run to 1,000 and 1,200 square feet with private outdoor space above the street.

In-room dining runs from 7am to 10pm, which matters when a call overruns the dinner you had planned.

Dinner without leaving the building

Smyth Tavern, our brasserie on the corner of West Broadway and Chambers, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and works as well for a solo meal as for a four-person debrief. Galerie Bar on the lobby level pours cocktails and light bites beside two fireplaces, which is where most working evenings here end up. Both are run by Mercer Street Hospitality.

A neighbourhood that keeps the day short

Brookfield Place, the Oculus and the World Trade Center are a ten-minute walk west. The courts and city offices around Foley Square are closer still. Tribeca’s own restaurants and bars start on the block, so a late meeting does not become a cross-town trip. For a change of pace between appointments, the Hudson River path is a few streets away.
